چکیده

We review a long-standing difficulty in some semiclassical models of vacuum and vacuum decay. Surprisingly enough these models, careless of their transparent formulation, are affected by, both, technical and conceptual issues. After proving some general results that are relevant for, both, the Euclidean and Lorentzian sectors of their dynamics, we briefly highlight their importance in connection with the issues discussed before, arguing that their solution might be interesting in our quest for quantum gravity. The generalized Darmois–Israel formalism for Einstein–Gauss–Bonnet theory is applied to construct thin-shell Lorentzian wormholes with spherical symmetry. We calculate the energy localized on the shell, and we find that for certain values of the parameters wormholes could be supported by matter not violating the energy conditions.

Let us assume, that gravity is emergent low-energy phenomenon arising from the topologically stable defect in momentum space – the Fermi point. What are the consequences? We discuss the natural values of fermion masses and cosmological constant; flatness of the Universe; bounds on the Lorentz violation; etc.

We employ the semiclassical approximation to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in the spatially flat de Sitter Universe to investigate the dynamics of a minimally coupled scalar field near the Planck scale. We find that, contrary to näıve intuition, the effects of quantum gravitational fluctuations become negligible and the scalar field states asymptotically approach plane-waves at very early times. ...

The instability of the false vacuum of a scalar field interacting with gravity can result in the formation of rapidly expanding bubbles containing the scalar field (inflaton) on the true vacuum side of the potential barrier, [1]. This process, described by the Coleman de Luccia (CdL) instanton, takes place (the CdL instanton exists) under some conditions on the inflaton potential V , [11], [12]...
